The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with TEPHINET and the World Hypertension League (WHL), are pleased to announce a new 3-part series of virtual monthly professional development webinars, on Interpretation of Study Findings, presented by Professors Daniel T. Lackland, Michael A. Weber, and Paul K. Whelton of World Hypertension League. The webinar series topics will include epidemiologic risk estimates, sensitivity, specificity predictive value, and more.

Session Description: This session will describe the interpretation of different types of epidemiologic measures and teach you about the application of risk measures.

Part 2: Sensitivity and Specificity When: Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 8:00 am EDT | 6:00 am CST | 12:00 pm GMT | 3:00 pm EAT | 5:30 pm IST | 7:00 pm ICT

Session Description: This session will introduce the basic statistical concepts for diagnostic testing, including the impact of pretest probability on clinical decision-making. You will also learn about identifying the elements of a high-value screening test and approaches to apply statistical tools to make high-value treatment decisions.

Part 3: Predictive Value and Diagnosis When: Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 8:00 am EDT | 6:00 am CST | 12:00 pm GMT | 3:00 pm EAT | 5:30 pm IST | 7:00 pm ICT Registration link: Part 3 of 3
Session Description: This session will describe the accuracy of diagnosis tests and prediction tools, focusing on the value and interpretations of assessment metrics. It will also cover the application of predictive values in epidemiology and evidence-based medicine.

Session Description:
This session will describe confounding and its effects on study results. It will also cover the strategies to reduce confounding.

Part 4: Epidemiology Abnormality, Risks, and Assessment  -  April 18, 2024, 8:00 ETD  

Session Description: This session will go over the ways of defining abnormal and risks, including the metrics and quantification of abnormal and risks.

Part 5: ROC Curves -  May 16, 2024 at 8:00am EDT 

Session Description: This session will introduce hypothesis testing with the ROC curve approach. It will also go over how to describe the use of the ROC curve methodology and introduce the Area under the ROC curve (AUC) methodology.

Part 6: Tools for Assessing Research Study Evidence – Quality of the Studies -  June 20, 2024 at 8:00am EDT 

Session Description: This session will describe the various methods for assessing the quality of different studies. It will also identify resources and instruments for assessing study results.
